 Like anyone born into a family of musicians, it is easy to understand Madeline Forster’s love of music. While growing up in the Rochester, NY suburb of Fairport, she honed her skills as a classical oboist in various orchestras and wind ensembles, and studied piano and classical voice as
well. However, in her spare time she would steal away and listen to the classic music of Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, Nat King Cole, and Peggy Lee, spending endless hours studying their unique sounds and stylings. Eventually her passion for jazz became a more singular focus, and friends and family convinced her to share her voice with a wider audience.
Her 6-song demo CD recorded in mid 2007 has quickly caught the attention of a broad audience. Madeline’s clean, effortless and approachable sound is drawing listeners young and old to the “Songbook” era of great, classic jazz. Madeline has studied voice in Rochester at the Eastman School of Music, and in Toronto at York University. She has been heard in Toronto at various clubs including Ten Feet Tall, Dominion on Queen, and Amis du Jazz in Sonya, Ontario. On the Rochester club scene she performs at Bistro 135 and the Little Theater Café, and has also been a featured performer at Oak Hill Country Club, Fairport Canal Days Festival, and the John Calvin Presbyterian Church “Concerts on the Hill” series. |
